22nd April marks the commemoration of the World’s Earth Day. Earth day is all about appreciating the uniqueness of our planet Earth with its incredible biodiversity. On this day, various national and international activities are conducted to understand the biodiversity and how should we protect our nature- plants, animals and the environment.
As such,on 23rd April 2016, JCI Curepipe joined the cause “Trees for the Earth” which aims at planting 50,000 plants around the World on Earth Day. In addition, in line with the Sustainable Development Goal no. 15 “Life on Land” of the UN which is about protecting, restoring, using terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managing forests, halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss,we celebrated Earth Day with Association Ensam at Point aux Sables and JCI Port-Louis at Bois Marchand. The team carried out an awareness campaign on saving our resources through recycling. The kids took much interest in the concept of recycling wastes.
We were awed and also inspired by the enthusiasm of these small kids when it came to tree planting and setting up of their own garden; from plowing to watering, they helped in all activities with strong spirit. We believe that our little initiative is a big step in fighting climate change, support the local community, protect bio diversity, inspire people to be more concern about the environment and above all inculcate the concern amongst children to protect our plant and forests. We believe in peace with Nature. We believe Peace is Possible.
