The JCI Nothing But Nets Trip Contest Continues: Fighting Malaria in 2013

After a successful year in 2012, JCI members look forward to new goals and exciting projects taking action against this preventable disease.

Since the JCI Nothing But Nets campaign began in 2008, we’ve seen great progress in the global campaign to end malaria deaths.

When we started, a child died of malaria every 30 seconds. In 2011, it became every 45 seconds. Today, a child dies of malaria every 60 seconds. Although the numbers show the campaign against malaria has been effective, we all agree even one child dying of malaria is one child too many.

A Look Back

In 2012, JCI members exceeded our organization-wide goal of US $500,000 and raised more than US $508,000. The UN Foundation’s Nothing But Nets Director Chris Helfrich gives unending thanks to all JCI Local and National Organizations who contributed through their creative projects, time, donations and passion for the cause.

A very special congratulations to the 2012 JCI Nothing But Nets Trip Contest winners

  • JCI the Netherlands with a donation of US $173, 305
  • JCI Japan with a donation of US $140, 394
  • JCI Malaysia with a donation of US$ 46,368
  • Top individual fundraiser Madelyne Ahlquist (JCI USA) with a donation of US $1,505

These three JCI National Organizations will have the chance to send one member along with Madelyne to join the Nothing But Nets team on an observation and distribution trip to Africa in August or September of this year. This is a once in a lifetime experience that will give JCI members a chance to see their hard work in action at the grassroots level. On this trip, they will be working alongside a local partner who helps these communities everyday, seeing firsthand how effective an insecticide treated bed net truly is for those at risk of malaria.

Let’s also show our appreciation for the largest donors by Area for 2012:

Africa and the Middle East: LebanonMauritius and Cameroon

Americas: USACanada and Puerto Rico

Asia and the Pacific: JapanMalaysia and Singapore

Europe: The NetherlandsDenmark and United Kingdom

Combating Malaria in 2013

JCI continues our commitment to this important initiative with a goal to end malaria deaths across Africa and around the world. Do you want to join Nothing But Nets on an observation trip in 2014? The JCI Nothing But Nets Trip Contest continues this year! Same rules, same prize! The TOP THREE JCI National Organizations who raise the most money along with the top individual fundraiser from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2013 will have the exciting opportunity to be part of the observation trip to Africa next year.

The race is on…start fundraising today! Think about how you can create awareness for malaria in your community and encourage others to join the fight against this preventable disease. It only takes US $10 to send a net and save a life, protecting a family of up to four people for three years. Now is your chance to start your National Organization’s 2013 fundraising total and be one step closer to the observation trip in 2014.

Donate on Crowdrise today and dare to act against this deadly disease.
